Rebecca Roth was a citizen in the U.S. with good standing and no prior criminal record. She is divorced and was the mother of two young boys at the time. He was convicted in 2005 for running a giant Internet Ponzi scheme and is serving a 10-year sentence in the U.S. Roth has languished in a Mexican women's prison one hour from Guadalajara in Central Mexico since February 2006.
